Where: Franklin County Technical School, same lab as the summer training

Who's teaching it: Rich Roth of the Western Massachusetts Linux Users Group (and other ventures)

What you should know: The focus of this class will be users and email. The session will be starting with Users and related topics and then detailing how email systems work, finishing with the actual operation of the most common Linux email handling program, sendmail.

Users, Permissions and Modes
• Users: user names, user ID's and group ID's.
• Permissions: user, group and other
• Modes: read, write, execute, search, SUID, sticky
• /etc/passwd, /etc/group, /etc/shadow
• Adduser, useradd, groupadd
• Extended permissions systems: PAM, web servers, ftp, LDAP

  Email

• Email hosts and clients: mx records
• Agents: MUA, MTA
• Protocols: smtp, pop, imap
• Programs: clients: mail, pine, elm, mutt
• Servers: sendmail, qmail, postfix
• Sendmail setup: sendmail.cf/M4, sendmail.cw
• Virtual Domains and Virtual Users
