Announcing the second Western Mass. Linux Install Fest

Interested in running Linux but need a little help? We'll be glad to help! The Western Mass. Linux Users Group (WeMaLu) cordially invites you to our Linux Install Fest. If you bring your PC to the Install Fest, we'll install Linux on it (preserving your existing Windows installation, if you have one) and help you with a basic X windows configuration, and network setup.

Dates and Locations:

  • Saturday, April 7, 2001 Lederle Graduate Research Center (room A110A)
    on the UMass campus. From 11:00 to 4:00 PM (Those setting up, arrive an hour earlier)


Minimum system requirements:
Style Needed
Disk Space
Memory (RAM) CPU

Bare installation
(no X Windows, command-line only.
Good if you have some Unix experience,
or limited hardware.)
300 MB 8 MB Intel 386

Minimal X Windows Installation
(if you want to see how Linux works.)
500 MB 16 MB Intel 486

Typical X Windows Installation
(X Windows, programming tools, etc.)
1 Gb 32 MB Pentium

Recommended advanced.
(all the above plus StarOffice or Applix; Quake, etc.)
2 GB 64 MB Pentium
