Anyone interested in Linux and Unix are welcome. We provide a local forum to promote and discuss Linux, Unix and the open software movement.

Meetings:
We currently meet on or near the UMass-Amherst campus. The actual location varies based on what location is available and is posted on the main page of the web site.
Meetings are normally on the third Monday of each month, with an extra picnic many summers. When UMass has holidays, we often cancel or have a 'pub' meeting.

Take Note: The Halloween Documents are a unique view of how one of the largest commercial software vendors sees the Linux threat, and how they're actively planning to destroy it.
...
NOTE: WeMaLU now has it's own domain name!

Big thanks to Rich at east.on-the-net for setting us up and hosting our virtual domain.

Odd and Ends:

Why Linux:

Linux is a robust plucky Unix-like operating system that runs on a PC or Mac, developed by Linus Torvalds and a cast of hundreds (some say thousands) across the Internet from many countries. A Linux computer can do a heck of a lot, such as: Unix shell-C-Pascal programming, Intra/Internet server, Web server, PC-file server, Email Server, Xwindows, Netscape browsing platform, Word Processing and runs all sorts of games. Linux is free with open source code and often out-performs other commercial operating systems. Linux can live easily on the same machine with Win95, Win 3.1 or WinNT with various dualboot schemes.
